Summary of this Book...
This is one in a series of detective novels about Female 1980's private detective, Kinsey Milhone. These books have gone through the alphabet, starting with "A is for Alibi", "B is for Burglar," etc.

Sue Grafton is my favorite living author because of her ability to incorporate mystery, thriller, and suspense elements along with humorous observations and asides about human nature and characters that Kinsey meets in her journey through life.

Kinsey is definitely someone I would like to know as she sees things in similar ways to what I think and observe.

This book starts out with a third person account about one of the characters. It then switches to Kinsey writing in the first person telling about what happened to her. This is a very effective way to tell the story as the reader gets an overview in the beginning of a major character. We don't learn how that character figures in until much later in the story.

In this tale, Kinsey is hired to find an ex-con for a woman who is wealthy and seemingly out of her element. She is also helping a friend tie up some loose ends in her husband's death.

In addition, Kinsey has to deal with some new pesky neighbors who are very needy and who like to impose on others' generosity - a lot. It is a sticky wickett to get away from the ever present Edna and Joseph.

I won't give the plot away, but it all ties together seamlessly in the end, just as all Ms. Grafton's books tend to do.

Kinsey lives in a time when computers were just coming in the door. People still typed things up and used paper for record keeping, along with microfiche. Sometimes, I wish that I could go back in time and be a different age then and now. These books make me long for a simpler time and they are very well written.
I didn't like...
the fact that in the end something is hanging that I want resolved. I will wait for the "Y" book, but I did want it all sewn up now. I am itching to see what happens down the road for Mr. Lowe.
I recommend this Book because...
because Sue Grafton is, in my opinion, the best storyteller out there.
