This is the story of Louis Zamperini, a juvenile delinquent, inspired to run by his brother, who ran in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Then he was in the Navy, in a plane that was shot down, survived with two others after 47 days at sea, only to be captured and sent to a Japanese POW camp where he was beaten and tortured for years.

This is his story of unimaginable courage as he then lived on to be 97 years old.

This is a great and inspiring story.

I thought that Director Jolie did a better job than I expected. She has some work to do on her technique, which is slow like watching paint dry. This should have been a fast moving tale with lots of action. It really drags at parts of it.

This is a movie that Clint Eastwood (the best storyteller in Hollywood, bar none) could have worked wonders with. Still, it was an adequate job and is an interesting story, but she focuses too much on physical survival and not enough on what got Zamperini through to the other side emotionally to be such an inspirational and upbeat character.
