This DVD is one we got in the mail from Netflix.

It is the story of how Walt Disney spent 20 years trying to get the author of Mary Poppins (P.L. Travers) to sell him the rights to make the movie.

Walt Disney has to learn about her past life and what the books are really about in order to help her and help himself.

Tom Hanks plays Walt Disney and Emma Thompson is the stubborn P.L. Travers.

What happens is that Walt Disney finds out that the story is really about the father, Mr. Banks and making him into the hero of the piece. Once he sees that, things start to fall together.

I thought this was a beautiful film.

anyone who loves, as I do, Mary Poppins.

Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. He should have won the Oscar for this portrayal. He is exactly as I remember him.

sad - I was sobbing at the end. It was a beautiful story, but it made me cry.

is excellent. Thompson and Hanks are great and Paul Giammati is a standout as Mrs. Travers' driver.

Colin Farrel is great in the flashbacks as Mrs. Travers dad, also.

it was moving and it was a fine story. You don't always find good stories in popular movies these days.
