Vinnie, nothing more than a semi-literate thug at first glance, is a fantastic character and nicely amusing.

The jumps between Genevieve not understanding a fairly standard expression (she doesn't get metaphors) and Ryan spends a paragraph with Genevieve wrinkling her nose and coming to terms with the explanation....
....and then she'll use a totally different metaphor in internal dialogue which apparently comes naturally to Genevieve.

Check if Ryan had written anything else - she has, Gauguin is the first in the Connection series.
