This is one of the greatest films ever. I cannot say enough good about it - it stands the test of time as a classic. The character of Carl is unforgettable, as played by Billy Bob Thornton.

After killing his own mother and her lover when he is about 12 or so, Carl is institutionalized then released when he is in middle age and no longer a "danger" to society. He forms an attachment with a young boy named Frank, played by Lucas Black (now of NCIS New Orleans all grown up)

This film has the suggestion of terrible violence that is richly deserved in all cases. I hate violence but I came out of this movie loving Carl Childers and all the people who are his friends.

Robert Duvall is the personification of evil as Carl's father and John Ritter is brilliant as the gay friend of Frank's family.

French Fried Taters. You'll get that if you see the movie. My husband says "French Fried Taters" to our grandson in Carl's voice.

is amazing - all of them. I mean it when I say this is in my top ten of all time and I've seen a lot of films. This is unforgetable. All the good hearts in the movie reached out to me.

The ones who are evil have it coming.
