Summary of this Book...
This third book in the series takes off where Anne of Avonlea leaves.

Luckily, for Anne, Priscilla Grant and Gilbert Blythe travel with her also attend college in Redmond. In Redmond, Anne makes friends with Phillipa Gordon and reconnects with Stella, her friend from Queen’s College. The three girls rent a house with Stella’s aunt Jamesina as their chaperone.

During her stay in college, Anne receives marriage proposals from several people, including Gilbert. One of them is Roy Gardner, her romantic ideal, but realizing the superficiality of her dreams, she rejects Roy eventually, after making Gilbert miserable and extremely jealous. This makes Anne wonder if Gilbert is her true soulmate.

While in college, Anne is successful again winning awards and accolades.

The theme of the book is boyfriends and young love. Its outstanding feature is the secondary characters as Anne’s roommates. Each of these characters are brilliantly drawn with their different personalities and quirks. Gilbert and Roy’s presentations are a bit paler in comparison.

After Anne of Avonlea, I hadn’t read the following books in the series during my teens. So each book is becoming a new reading adventure for me, but still the first book, Anne of Green Gables, is my favorite.
This type of Book is good for...
Young Adult reading, but I like YA books, too.
The author of this Book...
is Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942), who was a Canadian author. Her books are: Anne of Green Gables; Anne of Avonlea; Anne of the Island; Anne's House of Dreams; Chronicles of Avonlea; Further Chronicles of Avonlea; Kilmeny of the Orchard; Rainbow Valley; Rilla of Ingleside; Short Stories 1896 – 1901; Short Stories 1902 – 1903; Short Stories 1904; Short Stories 1905 – 1906; Short Stories 1907 – 1908; Short Stories 1909 – 1922; The Golden Road; The Story Girl; The Alpine Path- The Story Of My Career
I recommend this Book because...
it is beautifully written with excellent characterization in general, but to appreciate it fully, the beginning two volumes need to be read first.
