This book was recommended to me by my good friend Joanne. We have been friends a long time, but we do not always agree on books. This time we did!

This is a mystery that I couldn't put down. I highly recommend it - I read it on my Kindle and I noticed that you can read the 1st 4 chapters now for free if you have kindle and Prime. I am not sure if you have to have the Prime.

The story is about a successful NY therapist (Grace Reinhart Sachs) who writes a book about relationships called, "You Should Have Known." The premise of the book is that people learn all they need to know about each other in the beginning, but ignore the signals thinking their partners will change to suit them.

She seems to have it all (on the surface) as she is married to a pediatric oncologist and they have a healthy son who goes to an exclusive private school in NY City.

Her marriage seems happy enough as she waits for her advice book to be published scheduling the promotional appearances here and there.

You slowly learn that things are not what they seem in her world and when another parent (a mother) from the school is murdered all heck breaks loose as Grace discovers her husband is not who she thought he was at all. In fact, he is a lying, narcissistic psychopath.

anyone who likes a good, intelligent, original mystery.

I liked the irony of her writing a book about the one thing she knows nothing about in her own life - her relationships with her husband and the one she had with her parents growing up. She and her husband shared the tendency to mold their world to fit their ideals. It has disasterous consequences for Grace and her son, Henry.

it was an absorbing read.

My only nit to pick is that the character of Grace was so wealthy that the impact of the media scrutiny could be avoided by moving to another family residence. It would have been more interesting to see her under financial pressures most people would face in such a circumstance.
