This is a novel in the Inspector Lynley Mystery series by Elizabeth George.

My favorite character, Detective Sargent Barbara Havers has very few friends, but Hadiyyah (who is 9 years old) is one that is near and dear to her. Hadiyyah goes missing, first snatched away by her deceiving mother and then kidnapped from her mother in Italy. Against all the odds and against stern warnings from her superiors (including Lynley) Barbara does everything she can to make things right for Hadiyyah and her dad.

This involves a trip to Italy and ultimately solving a terrible murder.

anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery with a lot of turns and twists.

the character of Havers and how she reacts to things. She is brutally honest and sometimes that doesn't work in her favor. But she is the most loyal and caring friend that anyone can have.

read more about the Italian Inspector who helps Havers. I would like to see this relationship explored in future novels.

like I could not put it down. It was more than 700 hardback pages and I read it in less than a week, which is astonishing for me.

really has created some amazing characters. Over time, she never runs out of situations for them and especially with Havers, the possibilities are limitless.

it was a great reading adventure.
