Once upon a time in a Ghetto nearly 900 miles a way from the south a beautiful baby, Diane was born. Three family members her Mother, Aunt, and Grandmother thought she hung the moon. In Diane's early years picture of her showed that she was embracing the world opening her arms wide savoring every moment life and what it had to offer. What an experience is this was going to be. Diane was born in the Ghetto of Detroit. If she was poor, she did not care or did not know it. Diane was a good girl from living in the slums. It taught her character because she saw both sides of the fence. She saw discrimination toward blacks on the evening news, she experienced blacks that were prejudice because she was white, and so much hurt for her dear friend; Kathleen whose Mom was French and white and her Father was black. Diane saw so much but she still thought like Anne Frank, bascially men were good at heart. One day Diane even saw Pap's store after the robbery. Pap's deep red blood looked burgandy againist the the cold, faded gray linoleum floor. The ambulance came to pick his lifeless body and take it to the morgue. How the neighboors hated that; we knew this was the beginning of how bad things could get. We loved to see Pap after school. For the poor children he made special prices on what we called wine candy. A long with his candy we always got a lecture on how we could be anything we wanted to be.. He was a role model and now he was gone. Maybe God wanted Pap to leave before the race roits began. Pap didn't like disharmony. After the race roits, all her friends leaving Detoit, and other things all combined Diane grew tired of the slums and wanted to move to the country. A little hippie commune lived inside of Diane. She had been in the south several times for vacations and the trees were so beautiful. Diane remebered hanging out her head on a hot summer night and with the car lights shining the trees took a look of sliver. The smell of the south was like that of decar and pine mixed. It was an unforgetable smell and a lot of the south had to do with diferent smells or maybe Diane's senses just came alive more while in the south. Should I continue? I'm sleepy? |
