Only found in the absence of light, what are they?
Living in the shadows, hiding from light
We run from the brightness, fleeing their sight.

Insubstantial child, spawn of the obscured
To those that chill my core, I am consequently lured.

From their persecuting, I flee, terrified
Gathering up my sister, so young, petrified.

Merely a small shadow of a flame, she cries
Watching those she loves shriek and die.

Pursued by those who destroyed my father
Though to eliminate us all they would rather.

From those who desecrated my dark, loving mother
From their searching lights I tremble and shudder.

Alhough we flee, they’re the ones who are scared
Only realising, I recognise this burden I bear.

I turn and face my nightmare’s ghouls
I look into their bright eyes and see nothing, mere fools.

For even though it is us they seek and find
It is truly themselves they fear, the blind.

They look into the darkness and feel only fear
For those who live in the bright, loathe us near.

Those who you convince yourselves do not exist
We are seen only in shadows, night, though you resist.
