My first attempt at a love poem. Please R and R!
J.C.

You made everything stop with your smile,
That was all it took.
I remember how your hazel eyes,
Used to cradle my brown ones.
Taking me away from everything I was accustomed to.

You never seemed to rush anywhere,
Merely glide with each step you took.
Somehow I was always able to keep up,
Even as your towering figure dwarfed my 5’3”.
And you always waited when I fell even the slightest bit behind.

I remember how you walked with your head bent down.
Were you afraid I would see something,
Hidden inside I was not ready to see?
Or were you harboring a blush that seemed to creep in your cheek,
Every time I told you I loved you?

You smiled again, and scratched your short ink black hair,
Which contrasted to the pale skin you wore.
Swedish you once told me was your ancestry,
As if that explained your reason for living.

Do you remember how your hand fit into mine?
The weight of your palm carefully crushed around my trembling fingers.
I was so cold that day at the rink,
But you were all that mattered.
Even as I helped you up countless times from the ice,
As we laughed and you said I was a young Tonya Harding.

The last time I saw your face,
I knew it was the end of us.
But I bought that expensive dress anyways,
Just to see your eyes light up.
But they didn’t this time.
As we entered the spacious room,
filled with boisterous music
and glitter adorned people,
You seemed more apart of them then me.

Talking to girls from colleges I knew nothing about,
Reminiscing about pastimes with your friends
That I could never imagine.
As we left hand in hand as usual,
You turned me for our last kiss.
And I kept my eyes open,
While yours were pressed firmly shut.
