Some musings on the topic of national service/obligation.
Would you not go to fields afar,
And tread upon the fields of distant foes,
Not for greed nor savage killing,
Or a blood lust so morose,
But for the life of him and her,
Or them, or us, or it?
Or would you rather turn the cheek,
And at home stare and sit.

"Tis not an hon'rable way to die
In war so far away,
For a cause that's aimed at rulers,
Or so the papers say.
But better to support the weak,
And help them in their needs!"
Yet their security and their land,
Is just what helps to feed.

"Thats not the way a true man thinks",
The film reels used to tell.
A story much more different,
As their friends and families fell.
But times have changed, the need is now,
For things to be done, not said.
It's alright to have morals,
But they're no use when you're dead!

I implore to you, oh great, good man,
To not see this as wrong.
I do this from necessity,
And not to join the throng;
Of men to arms the drums do beat
Along the "Sacred Way".
I do this for the best of you
As I march on to judgement day.
