Just An Ordinary Day

The day had started well, calm and sun-bright,
Nothing was telling him that by night
He'd battle for his life, fight to survive.
Hit by a tsunami wave he'd try to stay alive,
Terror struck, then thrown high upon a beach,
Safe from the sea but trapped out of help's reach

An Indonesian fisherman aged twenty-four,
Was out in his boat, fishing off shore.
When the wave struck he thought all was lost.
For just like a toy his boat was lifted, tossed.
He did nothing wrong, committed no crime,
He was in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

He lay there winded, caught under his boat,
Nearby, unknown to him dead bodies float.
He'd no food, nothing he could even drink,
Had to stay positive, not let his spirits sink.
Six long days and nights then he was found,
Washed up miles away, swept onto higher ground.

This man's lost everything, except his life,
Not so lucky, his best friend and his wife.
Nature a cruel trick on this man did play,
People taken, he took for granted every day.
Some think he's fortunate others don't agree,
For all his relatives drowned in the sea.
