A poem that I really need to have workshopped before I hand it into school! Thanks!
Tsunami

“Run! Run, now, for your life.
I was startled at the tone of panic in her plea,
As I arose and looked out towards the sea.

My hand went limp.
The wine glass I held fell to the ground, exploding asunder.
For a moment, shock held me motionless,
As if transfixed by the glare of a basilisk.
At last, I felt my numb legs turn to flee.

Too late

Behind me a whistling wave lurched up,
And my impending doom was already upon me.

The insatiable arc clasped its
Great blue maw about the cabana.
As the tormented, wailing orchestra around
Me was drowned out by a deep roar.

Finally the teetering tsunami broke, like a felled tree,
Crashing down upon me.

I did not hear my gasp as the behemoth wave struck,
Driving the air from my lungs in an unfathomable blow.
Like a dead fish I flopped in the turbulent waters,
Powerless.

Until, at last!
Mercilessly the black veils of my eyelids closed,
And I could no longer feel myself be tossed amuck.
