I've been teaching vacation Bible school for many, many years. Why is it that VBS publishers feel they MUST use some artificial cutesy theme, with obnoxious cartoon characters that are totally unrelated to the Bible stories being covered?
They also think that kids enjoy worksheets and filling in the blanks. They have no clue as to the poor academic skills that make reading/writing based activities abhorant to most elementary kids. VBS is a vacation activity, not summer school! It's supposed to make sharing their faith fun, for heaven's sake!
So, year after year, I find myself making up my own activities for my VBS classes. Drama is always popular, so each year I write at least a couple little plays that can be done by kids with limited reading skills, no practice time, and nominal props/sets. This is the current year's batch of playlets- if I can find some in my files from previous years, I'll post them, too.I'll spiff these up with WritingML tags as I get the time- the originals are nicely formatted with italics, bold, underlines, columns, centering text, etc.
