My summer road trip to California |
No mountains to obscure the view So you and I can watch the power lines recede Endlessly While we wait for rain to repaint the brown fields shades of green We'll moo out the window at the Happily grazing cows And leave them slightly amused Drink our bottled water and stare out at the vineyards And wonder if it's Merlot or Cabernet Soaring down the I-5 corridor Retracing old tracks Making our own laughs Scenic routes are such a bore Only good for someone Who can't make their own fun Even the mile markers are entertaining I guess the smog obscures the view But you and I can still watch the cornfields recede Endlessly While we wait for rain to repaint the brown sky shades of blue We'll laugh out the window at the Speeders who got caught And leave the CHiPs slightly amused Drink our chocolate shakes and stare out at the vineyards And wonder if it's Rose or Pinot Noir Soaring down the I-5 corridor Retracing old tracks Making our own laughs Scenic routes are such a bore Only good for someone Who can't make their own fun Even the truck drivers are entertaining No forests to obscure the view So you and I can watch the fenceposts recede Endlessly While we wait for rain to repaint the brown car shades of gold We'll wave out the window at the Convoy of Marines And leave them slightly amused Drink our Dr. Pepper and stare out at the vineyards And wonder if it's Bordeaux or Chardonnay Soaring down the I-5 corridor Retracing old tracks Making our own laughs Scenic routes are such a bore Only good for someone Who can't make their own fun Even the city names are entertaining Welcome to Yolo, Weed, and Yreka, Welcome to Talent and Gazelle... |
