The partner of an assault victim I nursed, I got to know him. He was black she was Asian.
In A Coma (part 1)

My darling girl here in a coma does lie,
She does not live, neither does she die,
I just sit beside her and I reminisce
and I think about the perfect bliss
that I was lucky to have for a while,
when she was happy and able to smile.

I remember her worries before she was ill,
now the face I love is so quiet and still.
She tried to prove to the world on her own
that I was the one meant for her alone.
But because I'm black, her they did hate.
They are sorry now, but it's far too late.

It does not save her the worry and pain
she struggled through, now all in vain.
Fought for the right to love her own choice,
now she lies silent no opinions to voice.
Did they ever try to see her point of view?
And ask themselves if our love could be true.

Her life with needles and tubes is controlled,
I can hardly believe that once she was so bold,
that she stood up and faced a great crowd.
Sometimes she would shout, shout at them aloud,
Please leave me alone and please let me be,
but they had their own way in the end as you see!
