A sestina which outlines the emotions of an unhappy wife, I hope.
A Wife’s Escape

Into the darkness, she carried her baby,
paradise seemed the eternal dream.
Here snow fell in flurries of weightless chill
as the hands of the clock conspired against her.
Her face brushed against the chill of the snow
as she found herself disturbed by broken things.

Carefully she watched the broken things
as past the darkness she carried her baby,
always avoiding the chill of the snow
by believing in her eternal dream,
but still the hands conspired against her
as flurries became currents of weightless chill.

Hurrying beyond the weightless chill,
and far beyond the broken things,
she could not escape the hands after her,
and the darkness that was for her baby.
Her belief in her eternal dream
escaped beyond the chill of the snow.

How could she run from the chill of the snow,
escape past that weightless chill?
She clung to the remains of her eternal dream,
as again she found the broken things.
The darkness was coming for her baby
as the hands quickly surrounded her.

She’s past the hands surrounding her
and again into the chill of the snow.
The darkness receded from her baby
and again surrounded the weightless chill.
She wanted to fix the broken things
as she could now see her eternal dream.

Finally she’s living her eternal dream
as the hands around don’t bother her.
No more are there broken things
amid the icy chill of the snow.
But she knows within that weightless chill
the darkness waits for her baby.

The broken things have gone, as has the chill of the snow,
her eternal dream is here, nothing can upset her.
And she knows the weightless chill will never have her baby.
