She's always on the run - from cruelty to betrayal, she finally runs to love.
Shawna was not an ordinary young woman.

She had never stepped out of her house since she was thirteen. While laughing children’s memories were filled with beautiful imageries of parent’s love, Shawna's were vivid visions of inflicted cruelty. Her stepfather’s whip had become her most intimate friend; her body bore scars of its making.

She was a prisoner, trapped in her stepfather’s world of brutality. The only light in her darkness was the son of her stepfather himself. He had been her protector, her confider that earned back her trust in men.

That was, until she reached eighteen. The age of freedom. The year that changed her life forever.

Forced against her will to marry a monster, she finally makes her desperate escape from her world of imprisonment. Running became her norm. She had to flee continuously. And once she began, she could not stop.

She had to keep on running...

Excerpt:

Nelson was a picture of rage as he towered over Shawna. She tried so valiantly hard not to let her intimidation of him showed but she could not control her trembling. Nelson laughed shortly and then mocked her.
“ Do you know how lucky you are? You had me taking you in when your mother died. Nothing belongs to you, you penniless child. You are forever in debt to me, orphan,” Nelson punctuated every sentence with sarcasm.
At that, Shawna gazed at him steadily, “ I owe you nothing. You have given me nothing except misery.”
Nelson let out a bellow of rage and started whipping her with his belt. The pain inflicted on her scarred body became too much for the fifteen year old to bear. She let out a cry and then collapsed onto the ground, weeping softly. There was a sudden flurry of anxious thumping footsteps and Greg, her stepbrother, burst into the room.
“ Dad! What are you doing? You hit her till she’s bleeding!” Horror was evident in his voice as he faced his father.
Nelson pushed him away from her roughly and glared at his son.
“ Who are you to interrupt? Begone! I’m disciplining my stepdaughter.”
          “ Dad!” Greg’s voice was a plea, “ She’s only a young girl!”
It was then that Nelson struck his son. The impact was so harsh and sudden that Greg fell back and cut his head on a glass edge.
“ Don’t you ever talk back to me!” Nelson roared as blood poured out from his unconscious son...
