Chapter 1 Who in the world would take in a small elf with no references? Kicked out her house, out of work, out of service, out of time. Just because she was caught flirting with the Master's son ...she let out a sigh. Where could she go? No one would take in an elf for work without references. The cold winter wind blew across her face. “Damn damn, and double damn!” “I can’t believe this happened.” She said under her breath. “I guess there’s naught left for me to do.” She said with another great sigh. She quickly made her way down the cobbled streets of Russia. Signs in the windows advertising work taunted her as she walked solemnly. She shoved her hands in her pockets, only to pull out a crumpled note. This is what is read; "L'anima è....no libero uno può controllarla, siete i vostri propri... siete giovani brave uno... e cercate la conoscenza del mondo." “The soul is free....no one can control you, you're your own...be brave young one...and seek out the knowledge of the world.” She sighed once again. It was an old note her mother had given her. Her mother was working in an old manor for some rich stiffs in Italy. She played with the silver loops high on her ear, signs of a house elf. The little sterling butterflys at the end of the loops signified her family crest. Her CD Player began to skip. “No...come on Ruki Vverh, don't do this to me!!” She pulled out the CD and cleaned it on her shirt. The question now, was what to do. Her Mother was in Italy, her Father in Australia somewhere, her brothers and sisters somewhere across the world. She sighed once more. The only place that didn't allow elf work was the Americas. Suddenly, she made up her mind right then and there. She would go to America. It wouldn't be easy. Elves weren't allowed clearance out of the country unless their masters granted such a request. She knew only one place that could help her with her escape. “Solitaire Unraveling.” The secret underground for elves. She quickly made her way to the nearest bus stop. She rolled her eyes back as she climbed on the bench. Elves were usually always slender and tall, but she resembled a small, petite woman. She smoothed her fuzzy pink shirt down to her black mini-cargo carpris. Her tiny shoes, highlighted with neon green and pink laces, were spotted with dirt. A young woman came and sat down on the bench. She looked thoroughly constipated. “Hello Ma’am!” She said with a plastic smile. The woman looked over as if a dog had just peed on her fancy mink covered boots. “Err, hello?” The woman said with a bit of a sneer about her fancy cosmetic lips. “What's your name, slave?” The woman said tipping her face up looking at her through fake lashes. “Liliniix Laurie Darude, Ma’am.” She said shoving out her hand. The young woman gasped at the small elf’s impertinence and sniffed the air. Lili began to bob her head to her music. The chill winter wind foretold a storm that night. Lili wished she had a sweater, or something. Lili fiddled with her suitcase. The bus gradually meandered up to the stop. Lili received nasty glances as she boarded the bus. It was even chillier on the bus if that were possible. Lili shivered uncontrollably. Night swiftly fell and a snowstorm cascaded upon the little ghetto of shabby apartments. “Last stop!.” The bus driver shouted to Lili. Lili made her way out of the bus. The streets were slippery and littered with trash. “Ah, welcome home.” Lili said to herself sarcastically. The master-less elves lived in these ghettos downtown. Lili walked until she reached an alley lit at the very end. She knocked on the brick wall. A pair of eyes opened. “Password?” it said in a deep voice. “Normalniy Vecher,” Lili said letting her Russian roll around her tongue. The brick wall shook as a tiny door opened. Lili could already hear the loud trance, rave and progressive music pulse through the walls. As she reached the lower level of the nightclub the music reached an all time peak. Lili felt her senses soar. She smiled, feeling at home with her own kind. She quickly brought herself down to reality. She must find Fluke, the man who had all the connections. A new song began and the strobe lights shattered everyone's image. The music pulled everyone to dance. Lili felt herself drawn in she danced, moving her body...writhing like a snake her hands high above her head reaching for the sky and drawing it near. As the trance ended Lili opened her eyes to find some fine specimens rather close. She excused herself to the bar. The tiny Glow-worms that dimly lit the bar wriggled out of Lili’s way as she sat down heavily. “"Würden Sie ein Getränk wünschen?" Came the thick German accented voice of Fluke. “You know I don't drink.” Lili said, as she turned around smiling at her old friend. Fluke's eyes glinted as he looked Lili over. His gray eyes were flicked with hints of mischief. His long blonde hair was pinned back neatly with a scarf, his shirt opened at the midriff revealing nicely formed abs. “I need a favor, I want out of Russia.” Lili said, getting right down to business. Fluke nearly dropped his glass. “Out of Russia huh?” He said, sitting down next to Lili. “Yeah,” she replied. “Where do you want to go?” He said, looking at her sideways. “America.” Lili said, returning the feral smile. “Yeah right,” Fluke scoffed as he sipped his drink. “I am serious!” Lili said. “I can't get tickets to America, anywhere else but probably not America.” Fluke said finally. The loud trance music beat in their ears like drums. After a few moments of releasing the tension, Lili grabbed Flukes arm and pulled him to the dance floor. “Dance with me..”Lili said softly starring into his now gleaming, with mystery, eyes. Lili raised her arms to the cavernous roof, stretched her palms and just moved her body any which way it could. Lili felt Flukes hand on hers as they both moved, entranced by the song. Lili opened her eyes once more to see Flukes face inches away from hers. A few strands of blonde hair fell across his face. All of a sudden Lili felt strong arms lift her up. Lili laughed in delight as Fluke held her up. Lili drew him close for a hug as he let her down. “I'll try to get a plane ticket to Venice. Hell I'll even try Canada. Just for you... but don't get your hopes up.” Fluke said in her ear. “Oh thank you!!” Lili said, hugging him even tighter. Later that night, Lili found herself in front of the shabbiest looking apartment she had ever seen. She knocked. A slender elf peeked her head out of the door. “Who...Lili?” The elf said sleepily. “Hey Shmi, sorry to come so late.” Lili said, smiling at her old friend. “Oh no its alright, come in come in.” Shmi said, opening the door fully now to reveal a long dark hallway breaking off into many rooms. As Lili entered, Shmi led her to the dining room where a meek blue fire was lit. “What brings you to Solitaire, hm?” Shmi asked, sitting on the floor near the blue flames. Lili told Shmi all about her plans to leave Russia. Shmi smiled weakly as Lili finished. “Fluke will try to get some tickets somewhere, hopefully somewhere near America.” Lili said smiling. “I wish I could leave Russia...” Shmi replied. “Here's to..back to France!” Shmi said, sighing with a smile. Suddenly Shmi looked serious. "Ive heard they are preparing for war." She said, in hushed tones. Lili gasped. Lili had heard rumors of an oncoming War. Whispers of it spread like a plague across the nations of earth. Lili remembered when Elves were made into being, 200 years ago. The year was 2050, when elves were created as Human replacments for work. Bionical at first, they soon evolved into half mech, half human. The elves did all of man's bidding. For a time all was good. The world marveled at these creations. Elves soon replaced humans at great conglomerates all around the would. The work of elves soon spread world wide. Though the nations of earth had gathered to celebrate the birth of these marvelous creations, all was not at peace. The World was consumed by hate and greed. World War 4 war soon engaged. Bionic Elves were used in war, many generations of elves were thrown unto their deaths on the battlefields. Thousands were captured and like in Hitler's time, were gased, tortured and starved. These simple sqaubbles in each continent soon became greater, and so did the hate. Nuclear war ensued. The Elves in slavery were yet again forced to perform suicidal acts in "The name of their country." The world was torn apart and ripped to shreads as hate now emcompassed the entire youth and showed no sign of stopping. For 10 years the meaningless war ensued. Finally most of the world was nothing but an eternal wasteland of death and decay where sorrowful tears fell unto scorched plains. The world, after 10 years, finally decided enough. Elves were sent out across the world, out of military service, back unto slavery. What was left of America declared Elves are also, part human and did they not too, deserve the respect of one? The other countries around the world turned their noses up at America's plea. Although America made itself a non-slavery zone, other nations quickly created new laws to prevent their slaves from leaving their countrys. Lili sighed once again. Suddenly the phone rang. It's shrill tones screamed through the silent house. Shmi lifted herself off the ground and went to answer it. She brought the phone back to Lili. "Its Fluke" she said, softly. Lili took the phone. Her eyes wide. "Right" she said, after a few moments. Smiling she hung up the phone. Lili hugged her best friend. "I'm worried about this world" Lili said, lifting her suitcase. "But I'll worry about it in Ireland" she said, as she headed out the door. The End |
