Your moonlight curls
held tight against my breast,
guarded closely by pudgy
elfin fingers clasped
in minute fists.
Listen-
the antique wooden crickets
sing to you of love,
as they once sang to me "krrr-eek, krrr-eek"
I shift my weight and stand,
waiting for your slumbered sigh
before laying you,
my precious package,
in your crib.
With tender awe I linger,
the rhythm of your breathing
more soothing than the
ocean's waves, a summer's breeze,
the beat of my own heart.
To my hushed delight
you sigh once more.
Across your sleep flushed cheeks
and petaled lips
a serene smile softly drifts-
God must have sent an angel
with a kiss.
As I watch you float
from sleep to dream
I wake from mine...
and wait for what
will be that cherished time.
