Soul Sisters
__________________________________________________

Born into a game of chance
One in a million, or is it two
Fate and destiny conspire
To limit the limitless
To a life without choices
A lifetime of compromise on a bed of hope
Courage, understanding and the final sacrifice

How close to another can one strive to be?
Shared blood throbbing through shared veins
Shared minds that touch in penance
And seek understanding
From bystanders in a mute world
Soul sisters sharing an eerie emptiness
Locked together in mock freedom

Run, sisters, run and shine
Play hide and seek in a field of dreams
Send words of hope from distant battlefields
Look closely at the laws and justice of man
Or recline in quite slumber
In a bed of your own to hope
Embrace death itself, to pursue a dream

Once in a while realization dawns
That we are humans only playing at God
That some dreams are just not meant to be
Two lives strung by a single flimsy thread
Touched by gifted hands that try
Expanding the boundaries of knowledge
As humanity prays in unison
Earthly barriers breached for once

Candles flicker in an alien dawn
The world takes time to shed a tear
Shrouds itself in grief as the souls depart
Swaying crowds mourn in black
Flowers bedeck the souls that dared to dream
An ordinary life, an ordinary bed to sleep alone
Now the dawn is here, the dreams have flown and
Only in death, do they finally sleep alone.
