Crossing Bridges
Bridges

There's no doubt that during a lifetime a person has to cross many bridges. These bridges are sometimes safe but often precarious trails from one place to another. These places can be physical or mental. They are usually a method of escape, either from or to something.

When a bridge is wide and inviting we sometimes plunge right across without a second thought. It is the narrow, fragile footbridge that causes us to falter and second- guess. Can we or should we cross that bridge? There might be no way back.

Another question remains. Should we burn those bridges behind us? Without the advantage of hindsight, do we burn them and courageously plunge ahead, never to return. Instead, maybe they should be left behind, untouched, for a future unforeseen retreat. Or should all be destroyed but a tendril. One thread of possible escape to what once was.

The best thing may be to find the safety of a comfy, covered bridge, stop in the middle, and ponder both sides for a while.
