As the sun disappears behind the hills, I think of you.
Night and Day
by Marilyn Mackenzie

Sunrise/sunset

The day turns to night
And the sun hides,
Disappears behind the hills.
The horizon takes on colors,
Secret colors that only appear
Briefly at sunrise and sunset,
Bright hues and muted ones.
The Artist’s palette boasts
Shades of blues and reds,
Hues of pinks and oranges.
Night sneaks in silently,
And as the sun slowly sinks
Below the distant hills,
I think of you.

The day turns to night
And the sun hides,
Disappears behind the hills.
Birds speak their last chirpings,
Squirrels romp no more.
Left behind are shadows; gray colors
Replace the splendor of the sunset.
Mourn we the things we didn’t do;
Hours have flown by once more
N’er to be replaced.
And as the moon slowly rises
Above the distant hills,
I think of you.

The day turns to night
And the sun hides,
Disappears behind the hills.
The fire crackles, colors imitating
Those of glorious sunsets.
Lonely lovers, no clinking glasses
Raised in cheerful toasts of love.
Separated are we by miles,
Yet one in heart and spirit.
When will we be united?
And as the moon slowly rises
Above the distant hills,
I think of you.

The night turns to day
And the moon hides,
Disappears behind the hills.
The horizon takes on colors,
Secret colors that only appear
Briefly at sunrise and sunset,
Bright hues and muted ones.
The Artist’s palette boasts
Shades of blues and reds,
Hues of pinks and oranges.
Day arrives boldly,
And as the sun slowly rises,
Above the distant hills,
I think of you.

In my dreams, I pat the bed beside me
And plump the pillows on the bed.
My thoughts, in my sleep, become dreams,
And I long for the day we’ll be wed.
