A poem about the Navajo
" I "

I stand, tall and proud.
Many arms, many fingers, all fragile.
I reach for the sun, My Savior.
Wind whisks through my limbs,
That is when I know I'm alive, truly alive.
As wind threatens my sanctuary I trust.
I trust my Mother Earth to keep me sturdy,
I trust my own feet to keep me planted,
I trust that if I should go, my seeds shall grow.
Many of us, all unique.
All magnificent.
This is our sanctuary.
Why should we ever leave?
We have known no other world.
We have known no other way.
This is our home.
This is where I stay.
Here I stand Tall and Proud.

Here I stand Tall and Proud.
Earth is my Mother,
Sky is my Father.
Water is my Sister,
Fire my Judge.
Air is my Challenge,
And I, I am Tree.
I am Tree.
My roots go deep,
Here I stand Tall and Proud.
Here is where I shall grow.
