At 35 yrs old, I shouldn't be having an identity crisis...
Re-acquaintance

Just the other day
I made a re-acquaintance
of a piece of me I never knew
long submerged in non-existence.

Forgotten and abandoned
hibernating all this while
the discovery so random
lulled conscious by your smile.

Restless and so giddy since
I made that strange discovery
making up for the lost time
in this period of recovery.

I know I have a life
I’m a mother and a wife
everything I’ve ever wanted
out of my existence
still to you I am compelled
I can offer no resistance.

Just the other day
when I made your re-acquaintance
you salvaged the piece of me
long submerged in non-existence.

I accept the truth of it as this
my life is a dichotomy
a graceful balancing act
to reconcile the pieces of me.
