Aema is living nowhere. How? Where is she? What is this place?
I pushed through the indefinite forms of the Lakkins and the bright, glowing forms of the Angels and felt energy in my legs. Curiousity was darting to and fro in my chest. I felt free and happy.
Neither the Lakkins nor the Angels showed any resistance. They backed away, Angels flapping upward and Lakkins floating over the landscape. They seemed kind of solemn (as solemn as they could be, considering their attitudes on life). I brushed off any feelings of regret and stepped forward, dreaming of anything at all that could possibly be hidden beyond my horizons.
But I suddenly realized... I didn't know where to go. Gray, flat, dust-covered land in all directions. If I had to just wing it, where would I start? How would I know where to go?
I decided it would be in my best intrest to make a landmark. But how? The only thing I had was the dust on the ground, and that usually fluttered and settled again on a regular basis.
Then I knew. I needed to change the land as well.
-
Changing the land proved harder than changing myself, because I didn't have anything to work with. I didn't know what the land was supposed to look like. It was like shutting your eyes and trying to tell which direction you were facing.
I knelt down on the ground and picked up a clod of gray dust. I crushed it with my reddish-brown fingers. It crumbled and flopped to the ground.
This isn't real, I told myself. You know what it's really supposed to be. What are you seeing?
I rubbed my eyes, thinking about perception, and how things could be different than what the eyes see.
I opened them and fell over in shock.
