Somewhere “Don’t listen to them.” “Who?” Jane asked. “Those guys, over there,” Reggie said. “They don’t want us here, so they keep telling everybody that there’s snakes or something. They’re trying to get us to leave.” “Why?” “Because they probably heard the story of the treasure too, and they’re afraid we’ll find it first!” “How could they hear about something you found in your grandfather’s journal from fifty-eight years ago?” “Well, if Gramps knew it, then some other people likely knew too.” “That would be quite a coincidence… what are the odds that somebody now, would read about a possible treasure from fifty-eight years ago, the same day that you did? And then get here first…?” “Well, when you put it that way…” Suddenly yelling came from the group trying to scare them off. “Found it!! I found it!” the voice yelled. The whole group ran to where the yelling guy was, and everyone started yelling and cheering! Then they all took off together, running in the other direction. “I can’t believe it!” Reggie said, “We were so close!” “I’m sorry,” Jane said, though she wasn’t very sorry, and wanted to go home. “Can we just go over and see where it was?” Reggie asked, quietly. “Sure!” Jane said, another ten minutes wouldn’t hurt. They walked over together to where the other gang was when they were there. There didn’t seem to be any digging involved there. As they kept looking for the spot the treasure would have been in, they pulled over a big rock and guess what was under it! Come on, a treasure from fifty-eight years ago? No. But they did find a twenty-dollar bill! And the first crowd had actually been trying to find their baseball, and did… So, the treasure is still there… somewhere… |
