Silence

It starts with silence,
a sigh slipping through clenched teeth,
maybe even an eye roll--
but it's the silence that speaks the loudest.

Another mood shift,
born from battles fought in his own mind.
You reach out, offering light,
but he turns away,
choosing the shadows instead.

It's easier to blame you,
easier to believe you're the storm,
because if it isn't you--
then it must be him,
and that's a truth too heavy to hold.
