A sort of memoir to my childhood
war and peace
my life story really
there was always this go between
the ebb and flow
highs and lows
back and forth
between stability
and the incendiary need
to deconstruct everything we’ve built up
we start
we rebuilt
reignite
take flight
on to the next
never looking back at the soot
we left behind
the ashes blowing in the wind
war
but when peace came
for a fleeting moment
wasn’t it heaven
when we’d have the warmth
the love
the certainty of being sought after
cared for
for at least a little while
peace
so when the war flash backs come
of power outages
and strange men lurking in the dark
I shut my eyes
whisper prayers
and think of the moments in the sun
when peace reigned
and war was just a cloud
