Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day. It comes once a year and everyone gets so excited! Will the groundhog see his shadow or not? What are we? Six-year-olds?

I’m sure groundhogs are cute. And if I was a groundhog, hibernating all winter, I’d be pretty excited to see if winter was over too! I can see why they check every couple days. Like us waking up and checking the clock to see if we have to get up or we can go back to sleep! Or course the groundhogs apparently want to get up, I usually want to go back to sleep…

Anyway, afraid of their own shadow? They must see that shadow every day! Why would they run away if they see it on Groundhog Day? I can’t imagine they’re that shy! And how do they know it’s Groundhog Day, do they have TV in their hiding places? Who checks on them after Groundhog Day? Does somebody go out every day until spring finally shows up and check the weather to see how the groundhog did? Does the poor thing get graded?

Well, I’m not falling for this again. I will celebrate the day and I will keep my mouth shut. But I won’t believe a word of any of it! And I’m surprised anybody does! Even total grown-ups! Maybe I’m just smarter than some other people. After all, I am in second grade already.
