Mothers Loss
Word Count 265

Rinsing my morning cup of coffee, I look out my window and admire the small garden I have out back. Glancing down to the bottom corner of the window, I look for my newest photo of my son all decked out in his military stuff and standing on a dirt road somewhere.

But it's not there? I look around the sink and move the curtains, thinking it may have slipped from its place in the corner window. No picture! I start worrying a bit, it's my favorite picture of him. I got to sleep in because it's my day, and now it's being ruined.

Looking around the kitchen, I move everything from the table. Then set it back and then start looking on the floor, moved the garbage can. Nope not under there. Surely, Janus, my daughter wouldn't throw it away, even by accident. She not exactly a pickup type of person. Really feeling lost now, I move into the living room and start looking there. My mind says no it is not going to be there, but my heart is still saying search till we find it.

Nearing tears now, I hear Janus pulling into the driveway. When she opens the door, my tears start. I know I held back as much as I could but now, I'm just blubbering about my picture.

"Mom, look in the bag." Janus says while she is holding me.

Opening the bag Janus was holding I find my picture, all set in a lovely handmade frame!!

"Happy Birthday Mom. I had it framed for you!" Janus says.
