The Wind

The wind was so strong that day, and the temperature dipping from the high forties to the low thirties, I certainly wasn’t prepared for it.

I didn’t like winter, nor cold, and wind, not much. (Actually, I didn’t like wind in the summer either…) My only consolation was it was cold and wind, not and snow! I know, it’s practically unscrupulous to live in New England and hate snow… (please don’t tell) but it didn’t make me feel that much better that the no snow added wind.

I’d just walked out the door, totally bundled up, and the blasted wind scooped my scarf right off my neck, as if I was stealing it! I grabbed, but it happened so fast, and it was so cold, I couldn’t do a thing beyond watch it flutter up off my shoulders, aiming toward the sky.

It actually caught at the edge of the roof, right on the corner, though, not even near a window! I was furious! Plus, the wind howled like it had just won the lottery!

I actually looked around for a box or something to climb up on, then realized it would need to be a box about two stories high. I don’t think they even make them, and even if they did, I doubt there would be one in our garage. I was livid! Until I actually listened to my own thoughts…

The wind blew away my scarf… Highly unlikely it was intentional. And even if it was, how cool that would be! Wind sneaking up on us and scooping away our scarves!

I always remember that incident when I hear we are about to have another storm. I was fourteen years old that day. I’m mid seventies now, and when I hear the wind blowing, I always smile.
