Eunice heads out to find the final few decorations she wants. 300 words
Last Minute Christmas

“Where are you going, Eunice?” Tom complained.

“I need a couple of things to finish decorating. I won’t be long,” she soothed.

“I better come with you, in case you need your personal Sherpa,” he said.

“It’s all right dear, none of its very heavy. Stay in the warmth and relax. I’ll be back soon”

The minute she hit the main road; Eunice couldn’t believe the traffic to the mall!

“It’s like it was Christmas Eve! This is ridiculous!”

When she finally made it, she had to circle the parking lot dizzily. Finally, she found a spot and pulled in facing out, much to the noisy protests of drivers behind her.

“You’ll be sorry later, when you have to exit your spot backward!” she mouthed at one of them. She ignored the finger she got her back.

“Let’s see. I want a new wreath for the front door,” Eunice murmured as she headed to the correct section.

She was astonished to find the shelves bare.

“No wreath this year, “she said sadly.

“Next, some strings of red lights for around the door,”

Nothing but tiny indoor twinkling lights, all white ones. She didn’t like the idea of indoor lights outdoors, so she sighed and moved on.

“Last but not least, a mistletoe kissing ball,” Eunice said with a twinkle in her eye.

No mistletoe, real or fake. Dejected, she left the store.

She slowly made her way home. As she pulled in the driveway, she saw a beautiful balsam wreath on the door decorated with silver balls. The door itself was surrounded by red Christmas lights.

Eunice came in the door smiling, only to be kissed thoroughly by Tom just inside.

“I found the glass kissing ball we bought our first Christmas; it wasn’t broken after all!”
