Saturday Morning

Jane woke up early knowing she wouldn’t get back to sleep. She turned to check on her husband, Ted, surprised because he was actually up, and gone already.

She got up and went to find him. But she heard him in the kitchen whispering. Trying not to interfere, in case it was something with one of the kids, she snuck over and listened on the other side of the doorway.

Both Sally and Janet seemed to be in there with Ted! She almost ran in, in case it was something bad, but suddenly heard a “Shhhhh,” from Ted.

“Whisper,” he said, “we don’t want Mom to wake up!”

She froze a little at the thought, what happened!? But knowing Ted was handling it, she just stood and listened, hoping it wasn’t anything bad.

Unfortunately, they whispered so well she couldn’t hear what they were talking about. Finally, she decided the best thing would be if she snuck back to their bedroom, and got up noisier.

Back in the room she sat on the bed and said quite loudly, “Good morning Ted!” then added, still loudly, “Oh, you’re already up!”

Then she made loud noises as she quickly got dressed and made the bed. Still no sound from the family. She was getting quite nervous about what the girls might have done that Ted caught them at. But all she could do is get up as noisily as possible, and go find out.

As she walked into the kitchen, really nervous now since it was still so quiet, suddenly she heard, “Happy Birthday Mom!”

She had to laugh, the girls were singing, there was a cake, even balloons! Lovely noise to celebrate one’s birthday!

She just kinda wished it really was her birthday… her real birthday was still two months away…
