SAMHAIN
Celtic Beginning of Winter Celebration ( SAA-wen )

Bright blue October skies
Fade to lifeless gray;
Brilliant red and orange leaves
Fade and fall away.

We're prepared for Winter : food and clothes,
Firewood, lamps and fuel.
Now ‘tis Samhain, when dark and light
Face off for who will rule.

The sun slips down below the rim;
A mere few moments more,
And here we'll stand, and the Otherworld
Will open up its doors.

For centuries now, upon this hill
We've waited and gathered near.
The Samhain bonfires have called us in,
The Otherworld to hear.

And this is the lesson they've brought to us :
“Nothing is guaranteed.”
Those who learn and accept this Truth
Will find their souls are freed.

Now ask yourself :”What does NOT change?”
‘Tis the nature of everything :
Where there's light, there's dark; where there's here, there's gone,
It's how it’s always been.

Where there's up, there's down, there's plenty or none;
‘Tis the time for passages.
As we leave the fires, our path is clear:
To wisely accept what is.

So we share stories through long Winter nights,
Remembering the Samhain lesson,
And grow in thanks to the Otherworld
For their gift, their priceless blessing.
