When one is feeling dry and cold in the spiritual walk of life,
Spiritual tedium!

Lord … shatter the fireguard of my fears.
The thing that keeps the fire of Your Spirit
From breaking out of the safe confines
Of the fire-well where I’ve kept the embers
Of my faith smouldering darkly.
Let the Wind of Your spirit blow …
And let the flames leap up
Consuming the dross.
All the coal dust of my conventionality.
Rake out the ashes of legalism and empty religion …
Coating all with a habit of grey tedium.
Heap new coals in the space created …
Live coals which You can apply
To those parts of my life which need
The purifying touch of Your “burning coals”.
Therefore trembling, but determined, I say..
“So come Lord Jesus! Blow … and burn!
Consume me … until the bonfire of my vanities
Results in
The resurrection to holiness,
And the Te Deum of a liberated soul.
