Initial brainstorming and "What if" questions for PrepMo 2024
Burt Martin used to live in Hemlock (will be changing the name of the town in all Laura Weber novels). His dad died there in a hunting accident. He and his friends are now out of college. They are coming back for deer season. They have a cabin 10 miles north of town up in the hills.
So, what if something is happening at the cabin? What if there is a family issue? What if Burt’s uncle, Clay Martin, wanted the property – which belonged to his father. But the cabin went to Brett Martin, who was killed in that hunting accident. It then went to Burt, but Clay is not happy about it.
So what if Clay expected Burt to be there by himself. So he goes up to the cabin to “convince” Burt to give him the property.
What if there was always bad blood between Clay and Brett? What if Brett “stole” Clay’s girl while he was enlisted and overseas fighting?
What if Clay was always somewhat of a black sheep of the family? What if he is mentally unstable? What if no one has seen him in years and may even think he’s dead?
What if I don’t even know what this novel is about?
What if Jed knows the Martin family, so when he doesn’t hear from the young men, he worries about them?
What if Laura goes along, because she doesn’t want Jed to go alone?
What if the town already knew that Clay had some issues?
What if he also owned some land that is adjacent to the land that Burt now owns, but he wants all of the land?
I think this is a good start to the “what if,” first thoughts for my 2024 novel.
