It is an interesting analogy, to feel something pulling on our tail; holding us back, directing our path, impeding progress. Perhaps this never occurred to me because, logically, I know we have nothing but vestigial tails. Yet, when I look, there it is, long and prehensile. And, there is indeed a little imp determinately yanking on this imaginary tail.

This imp—I shall call it It—has somehow convinced me that I do have a tail, and it is something to be ignored and denied. But, the pulls and yanks and directions, those must always be obeyed, without question.

I know what I need to do: Simply cut off the tail and run like hell into the sunset. Then I think: Cutting off my tail will hurt. Furthermore, this action may adversely affect my equilibrium—that I will have to learn to balance and stand and walk all over again. I am reluctant. I need a new plan. I’ll think about this for a while.

And there it is: Procrastination. Like I know exactly what needs to be done, but I’m waiting for a miracle to drop into my lap. I want change, but am investing no energy into attaining this goal; never executing appropriate action.

Hmm...

Here, then, is the real intention: Stop running. Turn and face It. Look It squarely in its beady lil’ eyes and say:

“Hey! Silly wabbit, humans don’t have tails. Run along now. Pester someone else. I’m done with this game. You are dismissed.”

Then, calmly walk into the dawning sunrise...and step into a brand new world, free of hypothetical imps and demons and devils—a world of trust and self-respect and self-love and abundance.

There are many ways imps can be conjured. In my case, it was an abusive father that never supported nor released me. But, the what, how, when, where, why do not matter—we can release ourselves...anytime we choose.

Freedom…!
