A ravenfly (rhyming form of 10 lines) Will it rain or snow come noon — how deep?
June 24th in the North

We huddle on warm fluffy pink
blankets spread for Saint John’s feast,
laden with hot dogs, chips and drinks.
Food’s ready folks — let's eat!

We scurry when raindrops splash, mum-
ble as hungry ants now dash.
They're drawn by sugar, bread and crumbs,
gleaning till all flesh is grass.

We look at glistening mountaintops and weep.
Will it rain or snow come noon — how deep?

Notes: to maintain rhythm I use the emdash — as a long pause or silent beat. Glistening is pronounced glis-ning (2 syllables not 3, like mem'ries versus memories.
