I have news, it's just a ruse - LINE COUNT 40
I want to get rid of my shoes.
Let the sand caress my feet
What's the point being on the beach
If I'm denied this treat?

I want to get rid of my shoes.
When I'm dancing on the grass
My skin needs to feel the dew
Not an artificial sole, alas!

I want to get rid of my shoes.
To be quite close to nature
My niece heard me say it often
And thought, "My aunt, I must placate her."

My niece, all of five years old
Bold, with a heart of gold
Sometimes does as she is told
At other times? (Let my tale unfold! *Wink* )

My niece, hearing my lament
Decided she would be kind
I was all dressed up for the event
But my shoes I could not find!

"Where ARE they?" I cried out loud
And everyone began to look
We searched high, we searched low
In every cranny and nook.

"I'm hosting the evening, I can't be late!"
I yelled, making everyone scurry
"I have to set up, I have to welcome
I really have to hurry!"

"Get in the car," my sister said
"I'll take you to a store
If you can't find this pair of shoes
We'll just buy you some more."

In my socked feet I climbed
Into the passenger seat
And there, wrapped in cellophane
Were my shoes, oh so neat.

She'd meant to donate them
Help me and help someone in need
I wanted to get rid of them
So she was doing both a good deed!
