Copper is used to make hot water tanks because it does not react with water or steam, while iron reacts with steam to corrode the tank. Copper is unaffected by temperature changes, whereas iron is influenced by steam 123. Copper is also a better conductor of heat than steel, which makes it more suitable for making hot water tanks 3.
