The Winter Solstice

The winter solstice -
a time when light and dark are balanced
family gathers round the hearth.


As snowflakes falls to Earth,
cedar wood burning in the fireplace.
Hot chocolate to sip while
the tree is decorated with
lights and shiny colorful trinkets.

After the feast sitting round the fire.
With candles lit around the house
the ritual begins -
open the circle,
to celebrate the return of the Horned God,
and the growing light to come.

The sharing of hugs and laughter,
sprinkle food outdoors
for the animals of nature to enjoy.

As the wheel turns one more time.
We say goodbye to the dark
and look forward to the light.
