a poem about giving up
Adrift

I dreamed we were sailing upright.
I slept so warm and well last night.
How could a storm rise so quickly?
I have no will to run or fight.

Tired rowing against the tide.
So bored with gasping for air.
I’m over this rudderless ruse.
I’m tired of fighting fair.

What is it all about this time?
What has set our ship adrift?
What could have caused the tides to rise?
Can we wait for the fogs to lift?

Try to cuddle a jellyfish.
The embrace is not worth the stings.
Sure, I felt the warmth now and then.
But I can’t risk everything.

I run into a gale force wind.
No daylight to guide my path.
You sail alone to where you must.
Yesterday’s storm was my last.
