A Very Good Afternoon

“This is unbelievable. It’s never going to work.” said Dad.

“What does that mean?” five-year-old Alex asked.

“That it won’t work.”

“I mean the believe part. Unbelieve. Is there something under believe?”

“What?”

“You said under.”

“No, I said un. Un is different than under, un by its self means ‘not’.”

“Really?”

“Yes, so unbelievable means not believable.”

“Oh, I didn’t know that…”

Later in the day, when Dad was watching them while Mom did some shopping, “Dad!” eight-year-old Sandra yelled, “Alex is being a jerk!”

“Alex cut it out!” Dad called.

“He’s still being a jerk!” Sandra said, now in the room with Dad, who was actually trying to watch TV.

“How?” Dad said, wanting to get back to the show.

“I asked him if I can use his crayons because I left mine at school and he won’t answer me.”

“He’s not talking?” Dad said, finding out that Alex was not talking being a bit hard to believe…

“He IS talking but in some stupid way.”

“Stupid?”

“Yes, He just keeps saying ‘You can un!’”

Dad laughed so hard it made his day. Sandra was so surprised by his reaction, she actually forgot what she had asked, and somehow, they all ended up at the local ice cream place.

It was a very good afternoon, indeed.
