While ducking through the attic space I took a look around. You never know what you might see, what treasures can be found. It has been ages, I am sure, since I have been up here. The place is dark and full of bugs and cobwebs in my hair. But now that I had made the trip I thought I’d scan the place. I didn’t see a mouse at all but spied some droppings trace. That’s why I had to go up here, those scratching sounds at night. My conscience bugged me endlessly. I finally said, “All right.” I placed some traps that I had brought to take care of that mouse. Just one more job that must be done when you own your own house. I still had stuff I’d stored up here so many years ago. And some stuff left from people that I didn’t even know. What was that round thing over there? It’s covered with a sheet. I looked down as I placed each step. I had to watch my feet. The last time that I climbed up here, that awful time before, I’d almost missed the rafter there and went right through the floor. I gently pulled that sheet toward me to not disturb the dust. I should have worn a mask up here. Yeah, that should be a must. It was a globe that I unearthed. The oceans were still blue. But I could see with a quick glance it wasn’t very new. There were some countries on that globe you won’t see anymore. No, things have changed since this was made; it isn’t like before. I spun the globe a little bit, just curious, you know, to look at countries where I’ve been and others I could go. Then I decided there and then to pack my bags and roam. That travel bug has hit me hard. My destination? Unknown. |
