Flash Fiction
Mom laughed

“Did you look in your room?”

“Yes.”

“In your backpack?”

“Yes.”

“In the back hall?”

“Yes, yes. It’s been stolen!”

“Why would anyone steal a dirty, ripped jacket? Did you look in the living room?”

“Why would I bring my jacket in the living room?”

“Remember when you left your socks in the refrigerator?”

“I was three!”

“Well bigger you, bigger thing…”

“Fine. I’ll look.”

“I found it!”

“Was it in the living room?”

“No!”

“Well where was it?”

“I found it, isn’t that enough?”

“Under the circumstances? No.”

“Come on! I’m gonna be late and miss the bus!

“Then I’ll drive you to school… tell me. Where was it?”

“In the refrigerator, OK?”

“No, I’ve used the refrigerator many times this morning, I know it wasn’t in there. Where did you find it??”

“Fine! But don’t laugh!”

“Why would I laugh?”

“Because, it was in the back hall hanging on a hook with all the other coats…”

“You hung your jacket up like you were supposed to?”

“Yes.”

“Then forgot to look there?”

“Yes…”

Mom laughed all the way to school.
