Trying to let you go.
Many days we came to the mountain top,
where we spent so much time alone, in love.
Now I come because the pain will not stop,
I can feel you there, in the clouds above.

I curse the city below where you died,
in the busy street that left me shaken.
You were gone and didn't hear how I cried,
begging you not to leave me forsaken.

I look up at the blue sky above me.
If I had wings, I would fly up to you.
Together again, we would both be free.
I'm yearning for you, if you only knew.

Trees around me seem to whisper your name,
as the leaves gently blow in the cool breeze.
I feel so full of hate, and endless blame,
I want it to stop, I want it to cease.

Soft rain begins to fall all around me.
Is it your tears telling me to let go?
Do you want me to forget? Be carefree?
There'll never be another, this I know.

A butterfly lands on my arm and sits.
Is it you coming to tell me goodbye?
It flies around me, I watch as it flits,
and slowly rises upward to the sky.

The rain stops. Behind white clouds, sunlight peeks,
Suddenly I feel refreshed, my heart filled.
A newness of life that my body seeks.
I shiver, for the rain has left me chilled.

Below me, the stream winds through the landscape,
its journey continues until it finds
a lake, river, or ocean to escape.
Likewise, I must find solace for my mind.

I realize there's beauty everywhere.
From the mountains to the lush valley floor,
Canyons, plains, even deserts so bare,
How could anyone ever want for more.

I cuff my hand and gently blow kisses,
hoping the wind carries them to your heart,
I think you know how much my soul misses,
everything about us, since we're apart.

I will no longer mourn you, but rejoice,
in all the lovely moments we enjoyed.
Forever, I'll hear the sound of your voice,
continuing life in this empty void.
