The Fan Issue

I sent my husband out to buy a new fan. It had gotten to the point where if I was working in the den, and had the fan on, I’d get up to get something I needed and come back to find, no fan… It had been snuck out to the garage workshop by the guy who literally never fixes anything, but does spend a lot of time playing in his shop.

My expectation (always a mistake over actually talking…) was that he would get himself a fan for the garage. But what happened was that he decided to get me the new fan. Very thoughtful, until you find out that a particular fan in the store seemed to call him and say “Jenny would love me!!!” Jenny did not.

First, it was a tad bigger than I needed for my small den, floor size rather than table, but worse, it was gold. Not real gold, golden plastic. A large, gold colored plastic floor fan to put into my comfy, lovely, quiet, off white colored den. It stuck out like a sore thumb.

He was so proud of his purchase, his surprise for me! As if I hadn’t just sent him out to get a second fan… that I actually felt obligated to use it to keep him so happy. I used it for one whole day. One whole day when I felt so uncomfortable, so crowded, so awkward using it that I actually considered giving up the den completely! Till I reminded myself that I sent him out for a fan for the garage.

He got used to it pretty easily. It’s just the right size for the garage. He isn’t crazy about it being gold, but too bad! He picked it out after all. Life is good again.
