The Surprise Bob stood for a moment, then, cocking his head slightly, said, “It doesn’t look right.” “Yes, but why?” Tina asked, cocking her own head as if looking at it sideways might give them the answer. “I don’t know, we followed the directions… as well as we could anyway.” “They weren’t very clear…” “I know, but if we had Dad help, it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore.” “I know… you know I have no building skills.” Mom came to the door, “How’s it going?” then “Oh…” as she looked at it. “Can you tell what we did wrong?” Bob asked. “I’m clueless… you know I have no skills at that either. Ooop!” she said, moving over so baby Anna could crawl in. “Maybe Anna can fix it,” Tina said, and they all chuckled. As the three went over the plans, chatting about what they meant, and what they did, trying to find the errors, Anna crawled over to the almost finished product. She reached her little hand out, and knocked one of the pieces down, and suddenly the whole thing lit up! Mom grabbed the baby as Bob and Tina ran to see what it was doing. It was working! “Anna fixed it!” Tina said excitedly! “By accident,” Bob said, flatly. “Well probably, she is just a baby, but she did fix it!” Tina said, stubbornly. “Well,” Mom said, picking up baby Anna, “now you can surprise Dad with it when he gets home!” “Yay!” they both said, as mom walked out with the baby. “Goo goo gah gah” Anna said, happily. “Yes, you did fix it Honey! Thank you!” said Mom. “Yes,” thought Anna, in her baby head, “I certainly did!” There was a serious learning curve coming for that family, when Anna finally learned to speak English… |
